“That was one of the best trips of the year” “Their chaperones are so caring and attentive.” “I got so many hugs and high-fives on the dock from those kids saying thank you.”

-- SHS Crew after Outdoors for All trip

Each year we continue to make life-long memories for hundreds of children and families from several different groups in the community. In 2008 will take 1000 non-profit guests on nearly 100 therapeutic, confidence-building and skills development sailing cruises.

“The volunteers were so compassionate and treated our families with so much respect.” - Eastside Domestic Violence Program

“Our families absolutely love being invited to go out sailing with you. Thank you so much for making this possible.”  -- Starlight Starbright

“This has been great. Even just sitting in the bay in the fresh air is so peaceful. It’s so nice to just get out of our room and have a change.”  -- Mother of a 14 year-old cancer patient, Ronald McDonald House

Sailing Heritage Society brightens the lives of ill children with free sailing trips on our 65’ schooner

Each year over 250 trips are given through our Community Sails Program.  We  provide therapeutic sails for children and their families to help ease the physical and emotional burden of cancer and other serious illnesses.   We build self-confidence and skills development by engaging at-risk and marginalized youth through our Challenge Sails program, leading to improved self-esteem and resiliency.  And we foster communication, team-building, leadership and responsibility through our Youth Leadership Sail Training program.

Each year, Sailing Heritage Society

  • Provides 100 free sail trips
  • Hosts over 5,000 guests
  • Benefits from over 5,000 volunteer hours
  • Gives over 600 Honorary Captain’s Certificate
